THE PIECE
Three stones stack directly into each other, each held in a plain gold bezel and joined edge to edge so the whole thing reads as one shape rather than three linked stones. A pear-cut red sits at the top, its point narrowing up toward the throat. A round blue holds the centre, the only stone in the piece with no point in any direction. A heart-cut green closes the base, its point running the opposite way, down and away from the body. Nothing here is engraved or pavé-set, and there isn't a single straight edge anywhere on the piece.
THE ROLE OF THE CIRCLE
The smallest stone is doing the most work. Above it, a point pulls up. Below it, a point pulls down. Left alone, those two directions would compete for the same piece of jewellery. The round blue stone settles that by refusing to take a side, since a circle has no direction to commit to. It isn't the feature here, it's the hinge, the one shape stable enough to let two opposing pulls sit on either side of it without the whole piece feeling unresolved. The setting stays out of the way entirely, each stone held by nothing more than a narrow band of gold worked flush to its edge.
