THE PIECE
Three stones run straight into one another, hanging as a single unbroken line. A cushion-cut red opens the piece at the top, four soft corners settling into a flat top edge, flanked by two small clear stones. Below it sits a round blue, a full circle, lighter in tone than it looks at first glance. The piece closes on a heart-cut pink at the base, point down, the largest and brightest stone of the three. Read top to bottom, the shape moves from squared to circular to a curve that narrows into a point. Each stone is held in its own plain band of gold.
WHY THE HEART WORKS HERE
A heart shape placed first would read as decoration before you'd noticed anything else about the piece. Placed last, after a squared stone and a circular one have already held the eye, it lands differently. By the time it arrives, it feels less like a motif and more like a conclusion, the one shape in the set that actually resolves into a point rather than merely suggesting one. Set in pink with nothing added around it, it's left to do that work on its own, no engraving, no extra stone, nothing standing between the shape and what it's saying.
