THE PIECE
Three stones run directly into each other, hanging from the chain as one unbroken column. A cushion-cut blue opens the piece at the top, dark enough to read almost black once the light drops, flanked by two small clear stones. Below it sits an oval red, the brightest stone in the set and the only one without a single straight edge. The piece closes on an emerald-cut green at the base, sharp-cornered and the largest of the three. Each stone sits in its own plain, unbroken band of gold. Two angular stones bracket one curved one, and that's the entire design.
THE PART THAT HOLDS THE CENTRE
Most pieces built this way send the eye downward, saving their strongest colour for the base so the whole necklace reads heaviest at the bottom. This one keeps its strongest note in the middle instead. The red sits between two darker, sharper-edged stones, and being both the brightest and the only curved shape in the piece, it holds attention rather than letting it slide past. The setting never competes for that. Each stone is held by a narrow, unbroken band of gold worked flush to its edge, nothing decorative added, so the contrast between hard corners and one soft curve does all the work.
